  9. LIST OF CHANGES IN PAGESTREAM FROM 3.0h2 TO 3.0i:

  11. TEXT:
  12. - Implemented text style (tag) features and fixed related problems:
  13.   - Renaming a style now propagates the style to all text formatted
  14.     with that style.
  15.   - Applying a paragraph style no longer propagates the attributes
  16.     of that style to subsequent un-styled text.
  17.   - Implemented the "Next Style" feature.
  18.   - Placing the cursor in text that is tagged with a "Based On"
  19.     style will now show the correct style in style lists.
  20.   - Implemented the ability to override a style.
  21.   - Implemented character styles.
  22.   - Attributes are now listed for character styles in the Text Style
  23.     Tags requester.
  24.   - Implemented the + signs in style lists beside styles that are
  25.     currently overridden.
  26. - Fixed known text color problems:
  27.   - Renaming a color now propagates the color to all text formatted
  28.     with that color.
  29. - Implemented font caching. In previous versions, PageStream
  30.   allocated memory for fonts as you used them until you ran out of
  31.   memory. It now caches the last 10 fonts used. When you use the
  32.   11th font, the first one is uncached.
  33. - Changed the <As Is> text displayed in lists when attributes were
  34.   indeterminate (see page 25 of the manual) to more specific text:
  35.   <Mixed>  Means that the selected text or objects have mixed
  36.            attributes.
  37.   FontName A fontname above a divider in a font list means that
  38.            the font is not currently installed. PageStream will
  39.            display the text in another font, but will remember the
  40.            font name so that you know which font to add.
  41.   Additional text strings will be added as required in the future.
  42.   If the font attribute is not mixed, <As Is> or <Mixed> will no
  43.   longer be shown in the font popup menu control.
  44. - Fixed the problem with cursor movements being acted upon before
  45.   the last buffered text.
  46. - Fixed the problems with paragraph attributes at the top of linked
  47.   columns. (ie, First Line indent didn't work at top of linked
  48.   columns.)
  49. - The page will now change when the cursor is moved to a text frame
  50.   on a different page.
  51. - Improved the scrolling of the page within the window for the
  52.   current cursor position.
  53. - Fixed the hyphenation rules problems; before and after character
  54.   rules were being ignored.
  55. - AGaramond and ABembo Expert families will no longer be re-encoded.
  56.   (ie, the characters will now be in the right positions.) Other
  57.   Expert families will continue to be re-encoded, so if you use a
  58.   different one, contact Soft-Logik Technical Support at
  59.   76004.1676@compuserve.com.
  60. - Fixed a problem with inserting user variables.
  61. - Fixed a serious crash bug with moving to the end of an article
  62.   with additional linked frames beyond the current partially filled
  63.   frame.
  64. - Fixed a hyphenation bug with the number of characters allowed
  65.   before a hyphen. Note that this fix could change your line breaks!
  66. - Renamed SoftLogik:Engines/English.dictionary to
  67.   American.dictionary because it is the American variant of the
  68.   dictionary. (Other variants are not  available at this time, and
  69.   spell checking is only implemented in PageLiner so far.)
  70. - Added the American.hyphenation file to the SoftLogik:Engines
  71.   directory. This is an ASCII file containing exceptions to the
  72.   hyphenation algorithms. The Edit Hyphenation requester is not
  73.   implemented yet, but you can add and remove exceptions manually by
  74.   editing this file. (Note that the Break button in Edit Hyphenation
  75.   is implemented, so you can type a word into the text gadget and
  76.   see how the algorithms would break it.) Note that an improved
  77.   version of this file will be included with 3.1, so if you make
  78.   changes to it, please make a note of them so that you can change
  79.   the 3.1 file, too.
  80. - Editing a color's values will now update text using that color.
  81.  
  82. LINKING TEXT FRAMES:
  83. - Linking frames with text in both frames no longer loses the text
  84.   in the second frame.
  85. - Linking frames now updates the document changed status.
  86. - Choosing Link Frames and then clicking on a blank part of the page
  87.   will no longer change the mouse pointer from the empty fram pointer
  88.   to the full frame pointer.
  89.  
  90. OBJECT DRAWING & MANIPULATION:
  91. - Completely implemented the Pen tool!
  92. - Completely implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping paths!
  93. - Completely implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping pictures!
  94. - Partially implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping drawings.
  95.   (Object strokes are not cropped---only fills.)
  96. - Partially implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping EPS objects.
  97.   (Bitmap previews are not cropped---only the EPS object.)
  98. - Implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping grid objects. (Not in
  99.   manual, new featurette.)
  100. - Copy/paste/duplicate/transform text frames is fixed!
  101. - Fixed the scale problem with dissolving scaled drawings.
  102. - Fixed the problem with transforming when the offsets were zero
  103.   but scale or rotation was not zero.
  104. - Fixed the problem with resizing drawings with the Edit palette
  105.   or Edit requester.
  106. - Fixed the problem with importing ILUS files containing drawing
  107.   objects.
  108. - Fixed the problem with Distribute when using bounding box and
  109.   either left, center or right spacing.
  110. - Fixed the stroke problem with imported Illustrator drawings.
  111. - Editing a color's values will now update objects using that color.
  112. - Fixed a crash bug if you tried to undo the cutting of an object
  113.   that had been previously manipulated. (Undo Cut cannot be undone
  114.   in the current version.)
  115. - Fixed the problem with custom colors changing to other named
  116.   colors when other attributes were modified in Line/Fill.
  117.  
  118. OPEN/SAVE/IMPORT/EXPORT:
  119. - When you open a PageStream2 document, a requester will now open
  120.   with five options to help you convert the text to use the new
  121.   formatting commands in PageStream3. This requester is documented
  122.   in the online help system.
  123. - Fixed the crash bug with Revert to Saved.
  124. - When you open a document, a second progress meter will now appear
  125.   after the first one closes while the document is processed into
  126.   PageStream's internal format. Some people thought the program
  127.   had locked up because this can sometimes be a lengthy process.
  128. - Overall, the time to process a document into PageStream's internal
  129.   format is about 8-10% faster for average documents. Processing
  130.   most objects is only a small amount faster, but processing paths
  131.   is about one third faster. Processing TextFX objects is much
  132.   faster.
  133. - Fixed the problem with opening a document and getting a second
  134.   view of the current document instead.
  135. - Changed the default path for Backups to Documents/Backups from
  136.   just Backups. If you have already saved your settings, this will
  137.   not affect you.
  138. - NEW FEATURE! Added a PICT filter. This filter can only import
  139.   bitmapped pictures from PICT files at this time, but this is the
  140.   most common type. Export is not available yet.
  141. - Fixed a bug with importing TIFF pictures that were non-24 bit RGB
  142.   or non-32 bit CMYK, and with exporting the same. Important: if you
  143.   saved out an incorrect TIFF before, the new filter will not be
  144.   able to import it back in! Use the previous version of BME and
  145.   this filter to save it out in 24 bit RGB or 32 bit CMYK format
  146.   before upgrading to 3.0i.
  147.  
  148. DOCUMENT STRUCTURE:
  149. - Inserted pages will now have the Show Master Page Objects option
  150.   set to In Back instead of Do Not Show.
  151. - Fixed related bugs with showing master page objects and inserting
  152.   pages.
  153.  
  154. INTERFACE:
  155. - NEW FEATURE! Added support for CyberGfx. You can now work in up to
  156.   24 bit mode on a CyberGfx compatible system! Note that the problem
  157.   with crashing when changing screen modes and quitting is due to a
  158.   bug in the CyberGfx software, not PageStream. This has or will be
  159.   fixed in the next update.
  160. - Redesigned the New Document requester:
  161.   - Removed the Master Page Name and Description, and Document
  162.     Description text gadgets. These options can still be set with
  163.     the Edit Master Page and Edit Document requesters, but removing
  164.     them makes the New Document requester simpler. (This change and
  165.     the following are part of the upcoming 3.1 interface, but have
  166.     been done now to keep PageStream Amiga and Mac in synch.)
  167.   - Changed the Portrait/Landscape toggle to a Landscape checkbox.
  168.   - Changed the Single/Double toggle to a Double-Sided checkbox.
  169. - Redesigned the Edit Master Page requester:
  170.   - Changed the Portrait/Landscape toggle to a Landscape checkbox.
  171.   - Changed the Single/Double toggle to a Double-Sided checkbox.
  172. - Redesigned the Tabs requester:
  173.   - Unselected tab stops are now gray, while the selected tab stop
  174.     icon is black. The triangles that formerly indicated the
  175.     selected tab stop are no longer shown.
  176.   - Arrow gadgets are now provided to scroll the tab ruler; the
  177.     scrollbar has been removed so that the tab ruler can be
  178.     positioned closer to the text you wish to modify.
  179.   - The tab ruler now scales to match the page size. The requester
  180.     does  not open above the column, but can be moved above it.
  181.   - The Del key can now be used to delete the selected tab.
  182.   - You can drag the selected tab to scroll the tab ruler.
  183. - Redesigned the Set Guides requester:
  184.   - Unselected guides are now gray, while the selected guide icon is
  185.     black. The triangle that formerly indicated the selected guide
  186.     is no longer shown.
  187.   - Arrow gadgets are now provided to scroll the guide ruler.
  188.   - The Del key can now be used to delete the selected guide.
  189.   - You can drag the selected guide to scroll the guide ruler.
  190. - Guides are now shown as solid lines, rather than dashed lines.
  191. - Guide and grid colors may now be set to any RGB color, not just
  192.   one of the 4 interface colors. On a low color screen, you may
  193.   not notice any immediate change in their colors due to the way
  194.   pen colors are allocated on the Amiga.
  195. - You can now set the guide and grid color as part of your program
  196.   defaults with the View Preferences requester, as well as the
  197.   page shadow color.
  198. - Document rulers now draw 50% faster.
  199. - Ruler ticks no longer crowd together at low magnifications.
  200. - The vertical ruler is now two pixels narrower.
  201. - The splash screen (startup and About requesters) now displays
  202.   much faster. The picture now has the actual logo colors, and they
  203.   look best on 16 color and better screens.
  204. - Fixed the problem with the Auto Kerning command becoming unchecked
  205.   when cancelling the Auto Hyphenation requester.
  206. - Removed the "framed" options from the Edit Group and Edit Compound
  207.   object requesters, because these objects are not framed.
  208. - Removed the unimplemented Apply button from Paragraph Format. It
  209.   didn't make sense that this requester should have one and other
  210.   attribute requesters didn't. (Tabs has one because settings tabs
  211.   without it can be difficult.)
  212.  
  213. PRINTING:
  214. - The user is once again prevented from modifying documents during
  215.   printing. (This was accidentally changed in recent versions, and
  216.   this could lead to disastrous results.)
  217.  
  218. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  219. - Fixed arrowhead printing to PostScript printers.
  220. - Fixed the quotesingle problem with DMF fonts such as LinePrinter.
  221.  
  222. HEWLETT-PACKARD PRINTER DRIVER:
  223. - added HP310, 320, 600C and 850C models to the model list.
  224. - implemented RET (Resolution Enhancement).
  225. - changed the default margins for most DeskJet models. You may have
  226.   to adjust your custom offsets if you have set them.
  227.  
  228. EPSON PRINTER DRIVER:
  229. - Completely rewrote the Epson driver to take into account the
  230.   varying margins of newer models.
  231. - Added XPD files that describe Epson printer standards in the
  232.   SoftLogik:Printers/XPD directory. XPD/EpsonModels is a table of
  233.   each model and the XPD file that matches it. All XPD files are in
  234.   ASCII format, so you can add your own. If you add or modify one,
  235.   or use an Epson compatible model that is not in the table, please
  236.   provide us with the details via email (76004.1676@compuserve.come)
  237.   so that we can update our master files.
  238. - Added many more brands and models to the Epson compatible model
  239.   list. If you had selected a Generic model, please reset your
  240.   settings because there are additional generic variations now.
  241. - NEW FEATURE! Added the Epson Stylus Color series to the Epson
  242.   driver.
  243. - Printing on Esc/P2 printers (most post 1991 printers) should now
  244.   be faster. It won't send data for blank lines, and blank lines are
  245.   now cued up.)
  246. - Printing on all Epson printers should now be faster. It no longer
  247.   dithers blank data at the end of each row. (So if the row is
  248.   blank, it won't dither anything.)
  249.  
  250. FARGO PRINTER DRIVER:
  251. - Modified the Fargo Primera Pro wax option to look for the correct
  252.   file. Please report any problems with this option.
  253.  
  254. PREFERENCE PRINTER DRIVER:
  255. - Made a change in the way the driver sets the paper size. This
  256.   should fix a problem with some Preference printers.
  257.  
  258. MACROS:
  259. - IMPORTANT: Changed parameters for: display, settoolmode,
  260.   displaygrid, displayguides, insertname.
  261. - New Commands: createpoint, deletepoint, editpoint, movepoint,
  262.   nudgepoint, selectpoint, splitpoint.
  263. - New Parameters for: nudge, move, display, settoolmode, print,
  264.   createdrawing, addpoint, displaygrid, displayguides,
  265.   getgriddisplay, getguidedisplay, setviewdefaults.
  266. - Removed arcto and arcnto parameters from addpoint.
  267. - Removed the highdata parameter from addarexxgadget. Remove this
  268.   from any scripts you have created.
  269. - Removed unused parameters from selecttext.
  270. - Corrected the parameters for editgroup.
  271. - Reformatted the entire script command reference in the online
  272.   help system. Corrected numerous typos and changed the format to
  273.   make it easier to maintain. The files are a bit shorter now so
  274.   they should load faster.
  275.  
  276. BME:
  277. - Implemented an internal clipboard in BME. BME now copies to the
  278.   system (external) clipboard only when another program needs to
  279.   copy from it. The implications are:
  280.   - copy/paste inside of BME is =much= faster than before.
  281.   - pasting into another program when BME's internal clipboard
  282.     contains newer data than the system clipboard will be delayed
  283.     until BME has copied its data to the clipboard.
  284. - Changed the way pictures are displayed. Instead of drawing one
  285.   row of pixels at a time, BME now displays the pictures in blocks.
  286. - Very large pictures should display a bit faster now. (Technical
  287.   note: BME uses chunky only now, no more planar.)
  288. - NEW FEATURE! BME now has virtual memory support built-in! If you
  289.   load a picture larger than available memory, it will use your
  290.   hard drive for virtual memory as required.
  291. - Fixed a serious problem with pasting a bitmap larger than the
  292.   current image. This could also affect rotating a selection so that
  293.   the selection was now larger than the image in one direction.
  294. - Changed the Emboss filter so that the lightsource is in the upper
  295.   left corner.
  296. - Fixed a problem that would crash if you moved an area whose edges
  297.   were outside the visible region.
  298. - BME now has a black frame around the picture.
  299. - Improved conversion between color depths.
  300.  
  301. PAGELINER:
  302. - The program now looks for the American.dictionary file instead of
  303.   English.dictionary.
